With one of their senior solicitors heading off for an overseas adventure, the Auckland office of this national practice is looking for a replacement in the highly regarded construction team. There are two partners focussed on the front-end work, primarily dealing with the non-contentious aspects of infrastructure and development projects.
Although the team operates as one, you will work closely with one partner in particular who is described as lovely and down-to-earth. Cultural fit will be very important. There are also six other lawyers in the front end team.
The work is consistently good quality and you should expect to be challenged to improve and develop. You could find yourself involved in:
- advising on construction and development projects;
- advising on energy and resources projects;
- drafting and negotiating complex engineering and infrastructure arrangements;
- acting for owners, contractors and funders;
- advising on a range of contracting structures, procurement models and risk sharing arrangements;
- upstream oil and gas issues;
- joint venture and consortium arrangements;
- power generation contracts and arrangements (including thermal and renewable);
- regulatory issues;
- access to infrastructure;
- business / asset acquisition and divestments;
- tendering advice; negotiation of contracts for capital works projects;
- supply contracts, service provider and consultancy arrangements;
- supply and maintenance arrangements;
- major capital works programme contracts;
- implementation of the regulations and negotiation of contracts to accommodate the emissions trading scheme;
- advising on the regulatory framework for electricity and gas markets;
- trading arrangements in the wholesale markets;
- PPP and private finance projects both in New Zealand and internationally; and
- Social Infrastructure PPP projects.
This role requires you to be able to hit the ground running and so you need to have some previous front-end construction experience, in New Zealand or overseas. Realistically you will also need at least 4 years PQE and a good academic background to be considered.
