At McLeod Duminy we understand that being a lawyer is a career and not just a job. That is why we aim to work with you on reaching your short, medium and long-term career goals. As specialist legal recruiters, we aim to reflect the profession we work with by being a trusted adviser and making sure we share our knowledge and experience as you make some very important life decisions.
When you work with us you can expect:
- We will be available when you want to talk to us;
- Regular communication and updates;
- Practical tips;
- Honest advice;
- Ethical dealing;
- Confidentiality; and
- On-going support.
At any given time we are working with junior lawyers through to partners, all with differing experience, ambitions and priorities. We work hard to understand what you are looking for and make sure we are approaching your job search in a way you are comfortable with, and at a pace that suits you. For some the process will take a matter of weeks, and there are others we have worked with to find that perfect spot over the course of months or, in a few cases, years. We see our role as opening doors to opportunities, but not forcing you to necessarily barge through.
We work with firms across New Zealand and so we can assist you in the main centres, on the North Island or the Mainland, or help you find a regional role with that ever-sought-after kiwi lifestyle.
This is possibly the first step in the process once you have made the decision to look for a new job and we can offer advice on preparing a CV that best showcases your experience. It is what will get you through the door and so it needs to be the best it can be. Remember that drafting skills are crucial for a lawyer and so employers will be assessing your experience and the document itself.

Very few people enjoy interviews but it remains an almost universal step in the recruitment process. We can guide you through the process and will be readily available for pre-interview pep talks and post-interview debriefs as necessary. The goal is always to get to the job offer so that you are the one making the final decision whether to accept or not.

Sending off your CV can feel a little like a leap of faith and so we will always acknowledge receipt and follow-up with a call where necessary.
Confidentiality is vital to our candidates, clients and us and so you can rest assured that your information will only be released to potential employers with your express permission, and once you have had the opportunity to thoroughly consider any options we have available.
